Election 2021: Vote to Protect Pensioners

We urge you to take action to protect defined benefit pensioners!

CFP post for FElection 2021If you have not done so already, please visit pensioners.ca to send a letter to your local candidates and the federal party leaders asking them to take the 100% Pension Protection Pledge. It takes less than a minute and makes a big impact.

Your CFP Election Toolkit includes:

  • Federal election talking points
  • Social media post and image – Please share our campaign on social media
  • Sample letter to the Editor
  • Outreach letter with pledge and meeting request
  • CFP Reality Check on 4 Common Anti-Pension Protection Arguments

2021 Federal Election Talking Points:

  1. Over 4.2 million Canadians rely on defined benefit pensions. These pensions are funded by employers and employees and benefits are paid to employees when they retire. Yet, their retirement security is not guaranteed.
  2. Pensions are deferred wages, yet pensioners are left at the back of the line when companies become insolvent. Insolvencies such as Sears and Nortel left vulnerable seniors facing a lifetime of financial difficulty, with many losing 20% or more of their income for the rest of their lives. This is un-Canadian.
  3. Federal insolvency and pension laws currently favour protection of big banks and executive bonuses over financial protection for pensioners. This is wrong and needs to be fixed.
  4. Extending 100% pension protection in insolvency costs taxpayers nothing. It just takes political will and legislative changes.
  5. The pandemic has revealed that our governments have done a poor job of protecting seniors. Our MPs need to get serious about protecting the financial security of all Canadian seniors, including pensioners.
  6. Call to action when speaking to candidates:

Urgent action needed to protect pensioners - Bill C-253

Folks we have received a request from CFP to ensure the government knows the seriousness with which seniors take pension security and that it is a major issue for us with DB plans. The notice has been posted in our blog here:

Please review the material and try and take the next step by contacting your MP to indicate your support.

Important 2020 Annual General Meeting (AGM) announcement

CancelledGiven the Coronavirus and all the societal impacts this has created we hope everyone and your families are staying safe.

DIPAC in past years has called its Annual General meeting for the end of April to elect directors, review the previous year's financial statements, and appoint the auditors for the coming year. We also bring to the forum current topics that the board feels will be relevant to enhance members knowledge around the security of our INViSTA pensions.

With the current upheaval surrounding the Coronavirus and the need for social distancing the DIPAC board had decided to defer the 2020 Annual General meeting until further notice. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and intend to call the meeting when it is appropriate to do so. To ensure the widest distribution of this message if you could please pass this information on to your friends/colleagues that would be much appreciated.

As the Annual General meeting is the place where the majority of members pay their annual dues we would encourage you to either sign on the  DIPAC.ca website to pay by credit card/debit card or mail a cheque payable to: Dupont/Invista Pensioners Association - Canada.

Attention :

The Board is continuing to advocate for our members though the Canadian Federation of Pensioners or through direct contact with government officials.

Stay safe and we will talk to you soon.
